National disability mentoring day 2010

Wednesday October 20th is national Disability Mentoring Day (DMD).

GoodTemps is again very proud to be participating in this event. We're extremely excited to meet the young mentees who will be shadowing our staff throughout the day, learning important on the job skills, demonstrating their existing skills, building confidence and exploring career options. DMD seeks to raise employer awareness of people with disabilities by dispelling their fears about hiring people with disabilities, and to increase confidence among students and job seekers with disabilities. This year sees a huge corporate involvement, with established names such as Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Bloomberg, Goodwill, NYPL and a host of NYC government agencies participating as mentors.

From the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities website:

What is disability mentoring day?

Disability Mentoring Day is a large-scale, broad-based effort designed to promote career development for students and job seekers with disabilities (mentees) through hands-on career exploration; job shadowing; internship and/or employment opportunities; and matching of mentee/mentor relationships. This program is hosted nationally in regions around the country by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), in close partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the Social Security Administration.
